TikTok Shop's reimbursement rules are scattered across Seller University articles, FBT operation manuals, and logistics coverage policies that read like they were written by lawyers for other lawyers. Meanwhile, the platform did roughly $15.8 billion in US GMV in 2025 across some 475,000 shops — and on the accounts we audit, 1–3% of that money quietly fails to make it back to sellers who are owed it.
This is the whole policy landscape in plain English: what TikTok owes you, when, and how the money actually arrives.
The three pillars of reimbursement
Pillar 1: FBT reimbursements. If you use Fulfilled by TikTok, TikTok's network of 14+ US fulfillment centers (run by subcontracted 3PLs) is responsible for your inventory. When that network loses it, damages it, or botches a fulfillment, you're owed a reimbursement. The catch that catches everyone: claims are due 60 days from the order creation date — not delivery, not discovery — filed via Seller Center ticket under FBT Issue → Logistics-Related Reimbursement Claims. Full treatment in our FBT lost inventory guide.
Pillar 2: TikTok Shipping logistics coverage. When you ship with TikTok Shipping and the carrier loses or damages the package — or a logistics failure causes the buyer's refund — that loss is covered up to the order's total retail value. Window: 90 days from delivery. This is the pillar sellers skip most often, because the loss disguises itself as an ordinary refund on the statement.
Pillar 3: Refund and return protections. TikTok refunds buyers aggressively — items at roughly $10 or less and non-returnable items can be refunded without any return required, and returning buyers get advanced refunds at carrier drop-off. When the return then never arrives, you can dispute from around day 10 after the refund. The mechanics and the fraud angle are in TikTok refunded the buyer and they kept your product.
Every deadline on one card
The 60-day FBT clock is the policy's sharpest edge. By the time a returned item should have restocked and visibly hasn't, half your window can already be gone. We did the full math in the 60-day rule.
What the policy does NOT do for you
Three things sellers consistently get wrong about 2026 policy:
It doesn't pay automatically — mostly. Some reimbursements trigger on their own. The expensive categories — receiving shortfalls, shrinkage, vanished returns, fee errors, refunds with logistics root causes — pay only when a seller finds them and files. No filing, no money.
Approval isn't payment. An approved claim should post to your settled statement within about 5 business days. Claims that get approved and never post, or post short, are a real failure mode. Verify every one.
There's no late-filing grace. Miss the window and the claim is dead. No appeal, no exception queue. The policy's generosity is real — retail-value coverage is genuinely good — but it's gated entirely behind deadlines most sellers aren't tracking.
What changed for 2026
The headline change is on the fee side: TikTok is running an FBT fee incentive program from April through September 2026 to pull more sellers into the fulfillment network (what sellers actually get). More sellers in FBT means more inventory in subcontracted 3PL warehouses — which, bluntly, means more lost-and-damaged claims to file. The reimbursement policy is your backstop; the incentive program is the reason more of you will need it.
The honest summary
TikTok's 2026 reimbursement policy is fair on paper and brutal in practice: real coverage, short windows, zero automation on the categories that matter, and a settlement statement that buries the evidence. Sellers who reconcile monthly and file on time collect what they're owed. Everyone else funds the gap — typically 1–3% of GMV (benchmarks by revenue level).
Or skip the learning curve: we audit your TikTok Shop account free within 24 hours, file every eligible claim inside TikTok's terms of service before windows close, and get paid only a percentage of what we recover. One brand recovered $30,800 in a month; we've recovered $710K+ for sellers in 2026 so far.
