You did $40K in sales last month. Your payout hit the bank and it's… not even close. Where did the money go?
If you're staring at a TikTok Shop settled statement trying to reverse-engineer your own revenue, you're not alone. We audit TikTok Shop accounts for a living, and the payout math is the #1 thing sellers ask us about. The short version: most of the gap is legitimate fees — but a meaningful slice is often errors and unclaimed reimbursements that TikTok will pay back if you catch them in time.
Here's the full breakdown.
How TikTok Shop payouts actually work
TikTok Shop doesn't pay you when an order ships. The money flows like this:
An order settles only after the delivery-plus-return window logic completes. Then it lands in a settled statement, where TikTok subtracts fees, refunds, adjustments, and reserves before depositing the remainder. If deductions exceed settlements in a given cycle, you get a negative settlement — a $0 deposit, with the balance carried against future payouts. Yes, you can sell all week and get paid nothing.
Every deduction in your settled statement
1. Referral/commission fees. TikTok's cut of each sale, varying by category. Predictable, but verify the category rate applied is correct — miscategorized SKUs get overcharged.
2. Transaction fees. Payment processing on each order.
3. Shipping fees. If you use TikTok Shipping, label costs are deducted here. Watch for orders where you were charged for a label on an order that was later cancelled or refunded — that's recoverable.
4. Refunds — including refund-without-return. When a customer is refunded, the sale is clawed back from your payout. The painful version: for low-value or non-returnable items, TikTok can refund the buyer without requiring the item back. You lose the revenue and the inventory. Some of these are disputable — more on that in our refund-without-return guide.
5. The dynamic reserve. TikTok holds a rolling reserve — commonly 30 days — against future refunds and claims. This isn't lost money, but it's why your payout lags your sales, and why fast-growing shops feel permanently underpaid. The reserve percentage can change based on your shop's performance metrics.
6. Adjustments. The catch-all line: chargebacks, promotion cost-sharing corrections, fee corrections, policy violations. This is where errors hide, because "adjustment" tells you nothing. Every adjustment should map to a documented reason. Many don't survive scrutiny.
7. Platform promotion costs. Your share of co-funded discounts and coupons. Verify you actually opted into what you're being charged for.
Which deductions you can claw back
Here's what matters: several of these categories generate reimbursable claims that TikTok pays only if you file — and the windows are short.
- FBT lost or damaged inventory. If you use Fulfilled by TikTok and units are lost or damaged in the warehouse or in transit, you're owed reimbursement. Claims for logistics-related FBT issues must be filed within 60 days of the order creation date.
- Logistics-caused refunds. When a buyer is refunded because of a shipping failure (lost package, late delivery, damaged in transit on a TikTok Shipping label), the loss should fall on the logistics coverage policy — up to the item's total retail value — not on you. Coverage claims generally run 90 days from delivery.
- Fee errors. Wrong category rates, double-charged labels, phantom adjustments.
- Refund-without-return disputes. A subset of these are disputable, especially advanced refunds where the returned item never actually arrives back.
Approved reimbursements show up in your settled statement, typically within about 5 business days of approval.
The 15-minute self-audit
Pull your last three settled statements and check: (1) Do total refunds match your Seller Center refund log? (2) Does every "adjustment" line have a reason you can verify? (3) If you're on FBT, does inventory received minus inventory sold match inventory remaining? (4) Were you charged shipping on any cancelled orders? Anything that doesn't reconcile is a claim candidate — and the clock is already running.
Or let us find it for you
We've recovered over $710,000 for e-commerce sellers in 2026 so far. On TikTok Shop specifically, we found one brand $30,800 in a single month — money TikTok owed them that nobody had claimed. We audit your account free within 24 hours, file every claim within TikTok's terms of service, and only get paid a percentage of what we actually recover. If we find nothing, you pay nothing.

FAQ
Why is my TikTok Shop payout $0? You likely had a negative settlement: refunds, reserves, and adjustments exceeded your settled sales for that cycle. The shortfall carries forward against your next payout. Pull the settled statement to see the line items.
How long does TikTok Shop hold money in reserve? TikTok's dynamic reserve policy commonly holds funds around 30 days, with the percentage based on shop performance. It's released on a rolling basis.
Can I get money back from TikTok Shop deductions? Yes — FBT lost/damaged inventory, logistics-caused refunds, fee errors, and some refund-without-return cases are all reimbursable if claimed within the deadline (60 days from order creation for FBT logistics claims; 90 days from delivery for shipping coverage).
How do I read a TikTok Shop settled statement? Seller Center → Finance → Settled statements. Each statement lists gross settlement, then itemized deductions. Export monthly and reconcile against your order and refund logs.
