What Is an FBT Reimbursement? (Definition + How Sellers Get Paid)

An FBT reimbursement is a payment TikTok makes to a seller to compensate for inventory that Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT) lost, damaged, or mishandled while it was in TikTok's custody. When you use FBT, your products live in TikTok's warehouse network and TikTok handles picking, packing, and shipping. When something goes wrong inside that network — a unit vanishes, a return never gets restocked, the wrong item ships — TikTok owes you the value of what was lost. The reimbursement is how that debt gets paid.

The catch, and the reason this page exists: FBT reimbursements are claim-driven. With limited exceptions, TikTok doesn't detect the loss and pay you automatically. The seller has to find the discrepancy, file the claim, and do it before the window closes.

What qualifies for an FBT reimbursement

The common categories:

  • Lost inventory — units received into FBT that later disappear from your count
  • Damaged inventory — units damaged in the warehouse or during fulfillment
  • Inbound receiving discrepancies — you shipped 500 units, FBT checked in 480
  • Fulfillment errors — wrong item shipped, order mishandled
  • Returns that vanish — a returned unit that's neither restocked into your sellable inventory nor reimbursed (in our audits, the single most common leak)

For the full breakdown of each category, see the FBT lost and damaged inventory guide.

How sellers actually get paid

  1. Find the discrepancy. Reconcile what FBT shows against what should be there — inbound shipments vs. received, inventory counts over time, returns vs. restocks and reimbursements.
  2. File the claim. Seller Center ticket: FBT Issue → Logistics-Related Reimbursement Claims, with your records attached.
  3. File inside the window. 60 days from the order creation date — not from delivery, and not from when you discovered the problem. This is the deadline that kills most claims; the math is in the 60-day rule.
  4. Verify the payment. Approved reimbursements typically post to your settled statement within ~5 business days. Check that the line item actually appears, at the right value.

FBT reimbursement vs. related terms

Not a refund. A refund goes from the order to the buyer. A reimbursement goes from TikTok to the seller, compensating for TikTok's own operational failure.

Not logistics coverage. TikTok Shipping's logistics coverage compensates for packages lost or damaged in transit on TikTok Shipping labels — 90 days from delivery, up to total retail value. FBT reimbursements cover failures inside the FBT warehouse and fulfillment operation — 60 days from order creation. Different policy, different window, different ticket.

Not an advanced refund. That's a buyer-side mechanic — defined here.

Why this matters in dollars

On Amazon FBA — a mature program with a decade of tooling — fulfillment-center losses run a well-documented 1–3% of revenue. FBT runs on a younger network with no reason to expect better. For a shop doing $100K/month through FBT, that's $1,000–$3,000 in claimable losses monthly, expiring on a 60-day fuse. One brand we audit recovered $30,800 in a single month; a supplement brand recovered $13,900 in February 2026. Neither shop knew the money was missing — that's the defining feature of FBT losses.

We find them for a living. Free 24-hour audit, claims filed within TikTok's terms of service, paid only a percentage of what we recover.

FAQ

What does FBT reimbursement mean? It's TikTok compensating a seller for inventory lost, damaged, or mishandled while under Fulfilled by TikTok's control — lost units, receiving discrepancies, fulfillment errors, and returns that were never restocked or reimbursed.

How do I file an FBT reimbursement claim? Through a Seller Center ticket: FBT Issue → Logistics-Related Reimbursement Claims, with your reconciliation records attached, within 60 days of the order creation date.
