"How much does TikTok Shop actually take?" is the wrong question. The right question is two questions: what are you supposed to pay, and what are you actually being charged? Those numbers don't always match — and the difference is refundable.

The fee stack
Referral fees. TikTok's commission on each sale, charged as a percentage that varies by category. This is your biggest fee line. Two things to verify: that your products are categorized correctly (miscategorized SKUs can carry a higher rate than they should), and that any new-seller or promotional fee discounts you qualified for were actually applied.
Transaction fees. Payment processing per order. Small individually, meaningful at volume.
Shipping costs. If you use TikTok Shipping, label costs are deducted from your payout. If you ship yourself, you're paying your carrier directly. The error pattern: labels charged on orders that were cancelled before shipment, or duplicate label charges on reshipped orders.
FBT fees. Fulfilled by TikTok adds fulfillment and storage fees per unit. Note that TikTok is running an FBT incentive program through September 2026 with discounted fees to drive adoption — if you enrolled, confirm the incentive pricing is what's hitting your statement.
Promotion cost-sharing. Co-funded discounts, coupons, and flash deals split between you and TikTok. The error pattern: being charged seller-funded portions for promotions you didn't opt into, or at higher splits than the campaign terms specified.
Adjustments. The miscellaneous bucket — chargebacks, corrections, policy deductions. Every line here deserves a "what is this, specifically?" Any adjustment that can't be traced to a documented event is a dispute candidate.
Affiliate commissions. If you sell through creators, their commission (which you set) comes out of each affiliate-driven sale. Verify the rate charged matches the rate you set per product — especially after you've changed rates, since stale rates on live collaborations are a recurring leak.
Sample math: what a $50 sale nets you
Take a $50 order in a mid-rate category, sold through an affiliate at 15% commission, fulfilled by FBT: after the referral fee, transaction fee, affiliate commission, and fulfillment cost, your net before product cost typically lands somewhere between $28–$35 depending on your category rate and FBT tier. Run this for your own SKUs once — sellers who know their per-SKU net catch statement anomalies instantly, because a wrong number looks wrong.
The fees that come back
Fees aren't all final.
